Canada, Oh Canada.

Back in July, I crossed a big thing off my bucket list:
Artist Residency.

I spent a week in Picton, Ontario at Sparkbox Studio.
I went with the expectation that I may not even draw while I was there. Instead I came away with a small body of work, which all centers around the theme of 'drought.' To be honest, I've been in a creative drought myself, and perhaps this gave me the literal space to explore that.

It was really wonderful adventur-ing, relaxing, not needing to excuse myself to go paint, and being really sweaty and hot. (This summer has been HELLA cold in SF).

I'm currently exploring avenues to share the work either in a small gallery or as a zine.
More on that soon...

My Sofar Sounds San Fran-Anniversary

Next week marks a year with Sofar Sounds!

I've enjoyed new artistic opportunities, new friends, and lots of new music, since starting my involvement with the San Francisco crew.  A handful of sketches from just (some) of the bands I've seen during the last few months in living rooms and work spaces, below!
One member of Loco Tranquilo

Lalin from the Seshen
Madeline Kenney & her band

3 of the 8+ members of Brass Magic Band

...And, while this band hasn't performed a Sofar Sounds show. I did check out their residency one night with some friends and drawing supplies:)

Lost In My Mind

I'm in the throws of a new job, a big project (I'll be excited to announce next month), & moving.

Somehow, despite all the chaos, I'm surviving. I've even made it to a Sofar show or two.
Some sketchbook drawings and show sketches for your viewing pleasure.

Wrapping Up the Year

As this year closes, I am anxiously awaiting the next.
I'm excited for new clients, big changes, and (fingers crossed) more money.

A few of the last sketches from 2015.

Sofar Sounds - Sofar Summit

The Sofar Sounds November show was also during our Sofar West Coast Summit.
A few members from Vancouver, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Diego chapters came to SF for a weekend of strategizing and debauchery and a show.

Above are some of my sketches from the show.

I Get Around

I've been busy running to and from events & meetings, lately.
Here are some sketchbook pages from said events...
or, the cup of coffee that keeps me going!

Below is from Litquake, a week of literary events in the Bay Area.
This was Sampson Starkweather's book release for 'Pain: The Boardgame,' from
Third Man Books, the publishing house of my hero, inventor, businessman, Jack-of-all-trades, Mr. Jack White!
If you like poetry, pop-culture, and a bit of morbidity this book is for you!
On a more personal note, this book, eloquently, speaks to what I have been going through lately.

Wannabe

Another night of Sofar Sounds shows!
The bands playing were predominantly female & I used that as inspiration for my sketches!

the Magnettes from Sweden above with glitter from their actual makeup!
Alycia Lang of Oakland below.
And, last but not least, Gracie and Rachel from Brooklyn by way of Berkeley.

Semi Charmed Kind of Life

I had the pleasure of drawing at another Sofar Sounds show last week.

It was held in the beautiful, letter-press studio Aesthetic Union
in the heart of the mission and home to Papa Llama greeting cards.

The Sam Chase band featured above.

And, below is Stephan Jenkins from Third Eye Blind!! My teenage self could not believe I saw him...and, then had the honor of being re-grammed on his Instagram!?!

Bandit Town

I spent Labor Day Weekend in a magical place called Bandit Town.

It's an Old West set in the town of North Fork, CA.
Days spent in the sun at nearby Bass Lake and evenings spent at the Saloon two-stepping to Bluegrass bands from all over the West Coast.

We met some characters there, illustrated by camp-mate & artist friend, Toby, including the most famous man in North Fork. That man is Paul, most well-known for his post at the local diner and a spotlight in Whitey Morgan's 'Waitin' Round to Die,' as the grave digger.

Tropicalia

This summer has been a busy one.
Lots of art events, lots of work, lots of travel, and lots of fun!

Went to visit my family in Miami a few weeks ago.

Biltmore Hotel. Coral Gables. Miami, Florida.

quick doodle from a cafe in Ocean Beach, San Francisco.

Sofar Sounds holds fantastic concerts in living rooms! I'm hoping to do some art for them in the future, which I am really excited about. (Band pictured: Travis Hayes)

Leaving for another big trip, with lots of other exciting news to come in August!
